A message from BCRC President Sara Speights:

It is time for each and every one of us to email the Environmental Commission (EC) concerning The Grove’s failure to incorporate environmental superiority for the development. The role of the EC is to review the proposed development and advise the City Council as to whether the proposed development exceeds normal zoning requirements and deserves a “superiority” rating in environmental elements.  We believe this proposal fails to do so, especially in five areas:

  • Protection of the priceless heritage trees on the property
  • Usable parkland for both new and existing residents
  • Storm water protection for downstream neighbors
  • Noise and air pollution
  • Austin’s Green Building Program

The Environmental Commission is expected to hold a full public hearing on Wednesday, May 4th. So mark your calendar and plan to attend the hearing at City Hall, 6 p.m., that day. However, a subcommittee of the Commission is expected to meet to discuss The Grove sometime the week before that hearing, so please move quickly to send your emails.  Let me assure you that emails are considered by the commissioners!

The attached long letter is intended to give you some facts and background on the issues mentioned above, but your emails can be much shorter.  Just use the letter for ideas to mention. Put as much as you can in your own words and language, but feel free to pull facts, phrases and even whole sentences to use in your email.  Then send your emails to:
